Luminous Voices Youth Spotlight

As a leader in Calgary's choral community, Luminous Voices takes great pride in inspiring tomorrow's generations of singers. Thanks to the generous support of the RBC Foundation, we launched the Luminous Voices Youth Spotlight during the 2016-17 season.

"Today's young singers are tomorrow's stars," says Timothy Shantz, founder and artistic director of Luminous Voices. "We want to foster exceptional singing and musicianship by showcasing great choral programs around Calgary. Music can provide unique and exciting opportunities for these young people as they continue to grow and discover their life pursuits."

For the 2016-17 season, three youth choirs performed in the lobby of the Bella Concert Hall before a Luminous Voices concert. Members also received free admission to the concert, and also some time with Shantz and a few choristers. The three choirs showcased included the Calgary Boys' Choir (Paul Grindlay, director), Cantaré Children's Choir (Catherine Glaser-Climie, director), and Mount Royal Arioso (Liz Paynter, director).

"We want to show young singers what they can aspire to in their musical lives," says Shantz. "By giving youth an opportunity to perform for our audience, we hopefully inspire them to continue their musical training -- especially in the choral arts."

Our thanks to the RBC Foundation for making the Youth Spotlight possible.
